Bishop & McKenzie’s story is closely tied to Alberta’s rich history and its strong pioneering spirit. Two years before Alberta was to become a province, the first Bishop Law office had opened for business in the young City of Edmonton. Since that time, both Bishop & McKenzie and the Province of Alberta have had the opportunity to grow and mature together.

The firm's founder, Edward Thomas Bishop was born in Ontario in 1876. E.T. Bishop studied law at Osgoode Hall in Toronto and was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 1902. Choosing to settle in Edmonton, he opened his first office in 1903, beginning nearly 45 years of distinguished legal service in the province of Alberta.

Many of E.T. Bishop's first clients, like the province of Alberta, have since grown to become leading players on both the national and international stage. We are proud of their growth, and of our continuing relationship with them.

Bishop & McKenzie has also grown, but we still call Alberta home. With offices in Calgary and Edmonton, we work with a wide variety of individuals, local and national companies, financial institutions, municipalities, foreign investors and business people operating throughout the province. We share our clients' dedication to making Alberta strong and look forward to another century of growing together.
