Wayne grew up in Cardston, Alberta, and received his B.A. from Brigham Young University and his LL.B. from the University of Alberta. Wayne was then admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1984 and later received his LL.M from Duke University. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and has been actively involved in the Real Estate Property and Foreclosure Subsections. As well, Wayne is a frequent lecturer for the Bar Admissions Course on Real Estate.
